Decorators - help with smooth finish when using a roller

Can anyone help with tips on how to avoid this stippled finish when using a roller? I am painting dulux Matt emulsion onto a plaster wall with a short pile b&q roller.

Is the plaster new or old?, what coatings has it had previously?.

New, it's had watered down base coat. That picture is of the spare loft room, which we used exactly the same method and equipment as the hallway which is looking the same after a little test area.

Is the roller new or has it been used before and washed?

My dear late dad would have a fit if he heard me say this - but I always bin used rollers and use new for every job!
  • I don't know about B&Q rollers but I always buy mine from a decorators merchant such as Johnstones. I also use their paint and make sure it isn't applied too thickly.

I am by no means an expert, but I haven't had those issues.
  • That just looks like a close up picture of a typical wall painted with a typical roller.

You need to thin the paint a fair bit on plaster due to suction and backroll before the paint dries, some of the cheap rollers don't help,I always use long pile and never have a problem but been doing it professionally for 35 years
