Hi, I arranged for an annual service for my car, and I was aware some small repairs might be required.
I've been told by the garage that the bill for the service is almost as much as I paid for the car.
Is this legal? When you book a product in for a standard service then surely they should inform you before wracking up a major bill for repairs? What should I do? Many thanks in advance

I'm confused.
What does the title of the thread have to do with car servicing?0 -
Stange title
Of course its legal even if the price was expensive you can just politely decline and get a quote else where.
Services can vary in price assuming it aint a very expensive car a full service not part service usually around £200-£300 mark at least in my area
If any things need replacing like suspension, brakes, cam belt thats extra and yes they should inform you prior to any workwilliamc10 wrote: »Hi, I arranged for an annual service for my car, and I was aware some small repairs might be required.

The way I read it, the work has already been carried out and the OP presented with the bill for the service and the extra work.
williamc10, what exactly were the "small repairs" and what work was carried out?0 -

They shouldn't proceed with major work unless you have previously agreed to this. You are then entitled to look for other quotes elsewhere or, indeed, scrap the car if it is not economical to repair.0 -

IMO, how you stand will depend on a few things.
1/ How much did you pay for the car?
If for example, you paid something like £400 and the service and repairs are around this figure then that's not too bad.
However, if you paid £4000 and they are charging close to this, that's different.
2/ As to the small repairs.
Did you give them the go ahead to do these? and if so, did they give you an estimate of the cost beforehand?
3/ Was the work that was carried out (assuming that it has already been done) only the service and the repairs that you knew about or did they do extra work as well?0 -
This is the OP's car0
