sizzix question

I want to get a die that needs to use the longer cutting plates, however they are expensive.

I was wondering if I brought another standard size set and joined two standard ones together edge to edge, would that work? Has anyone tried it?

Do you think they would need to be held with tape or would they go through the machine just laid side by side. I would rather not tape as don't want sticky residue left on them.

Thanks

I don't think it would work as at the end of each cutting plate the plates taper off. There would be a dip where they were joined. Also I'm not sure how you could hjoinbthek in manner that would not come undone.

Thats a good point about the taper, a cynical person would maybe think thats why they put that in

I will give it a miss as I am not buying the extended plates for one die.
