O/S Daily Sunday 24 September 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas, both boys still in their pits.

Dry, dull and cloudy here, but not cold, now true to form sky has cleared and the sun is shining.

Dinner last night was duck legs in hoisin sauce, ribs, savoury rice and stir fry veg in oyster sauce - all eaten and enjoyed. We were planning to go out today - to visit a car boot then on to visit DH's grandad but the travelling circus is pitched on the field where the car boot usually is, so we've had a change of plan, we'll just have a lazy day, visit the parents and have lunch. Lunch won't be a big roast as I just bought a cook from frozen joint for today, so I'll just prep some veg and gravy to go with it, if I can be bothered I may make some yorkshire pud - as this is a great way to stretch the food and we all love it. We are going out both Saturday and Sunday next weekend and we'll go to visit DH's grandad next Sunday on our way home from the meeting we're attending - it's out in that direction, so not a massive detour. I'll be prepping the lunch whilst that's cooking organising pack ups for tomorrow.

Work yesterday was quite quiet and then several people all came in at once just as we were about to close - always the way, but we managed to get them sorted although we were a bit late.

We had a small win on the euro lottery Friday night, although we bought several lines, so got most of our money back. I can't remember the last time we bought a lottery ticket, gave up and decided we're better off keeping the few quid in our pockets as a win is so rare now.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

Back to the house this morning to finish the repair, I need to have words about the decking. They have had it piled high with all the stuff they don't want,, much of it is plastic and the decking is rotting, it needs to breathe. I'm unsure as to why they need 3 sets of garden furniture, two old sets covered in plastic and one new set also covered in plastic , hey ho.

Roast chicken for lunch today, I have two chicken breasts I'm making curry with one and stretching the other one to a roast dinner by making stuffing balls and yorkies to go with it along with lots of veg.

It's time I made a start on breakfast.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

  • Morning everyone,

Thanks you for starting us off nmlc.

After a dull start to the day yesterday it turned into a really nice sunny afternoon, so I went for a walk around the park in the afternoon. I try to make the most of any decent weather that we get at this time of the year. The forecast is ok for this afternoon so I may be able to get out for a couple of hours again today.

Dinner yesterday was a mustard stuffed chicken breast with baby potatoes and steamed veg. It was a recipe I haven’t tried before but want to start cooking some different things; I find it all too easy to slip into just cooking the same things. I got some y/s filo pastry in the sm yesterday so I’m going to try making a salmon parcel using some of the pastry and a small salmon steak from the freezer. I just need to think about what type of sauce to make to put in it.

I will have a quick tidy around but other than that have decided that I will definitely have a day off from housework.

Have a good Sunday everyone whatever you are doing.

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc and well done on the win :j

Beautiful bright and sunny morning here but have woken up with a cold, my DOH felt rough yesterday and seems to have been generous in quickly passing it on! I picked up extra lemons yesterday so are both supping hot honey and lemon drinks, can't remember last time had a cold.
I will need to get over the yard this morning to see to Lulu and then both my DSS's are coming for lunch, am doing pork belly and that is all prepped ready in fridge so just need to crack on with the veggies. Not sure about afters, perhaps a crumble of some sort.
Have a good Sunday folks x
  • Good Morning all and a bright and sunny morning it is as well.Forecast is 20c here in Kent :) I love the tail end days of the summer when you get an unexpected bonus of a really warm day As yet I have still not used my CH which is also a bonus :)

Ironing this morning while listening to The Archers :) and a quick sort out of my menu for the week.
I shall do my second and last shop of the month this Thursday as we have a new Aldi's opening up near to me,that will save me a round trip to Sittingbourne in future (12 miles ) so another saving :):)

I am pleased that very slowly room is starting to appear in my freezer and the cupboards are getting less crammed with stuff.

Happy Birthday to those who are celebrating today and <<hugs>> for those who are feeling sad or a bit down

Right time to crack on chums
Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing

    JackieO xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for kicking off. Nice sunny start here and feels quite mild. Long may it last! We haven't resorted to the CH yet either but last night I had to put the fire on as it felt quite chilly.

Not a lot planned for today. I didn't get any garden tidying done yesterday as it felt too chilly when the sun went in after lunch. Maybe I will get some done today - or maybe I won't! I hate it when everything starts dying back.

I am not bothering making a big lunch today. I made such a big curry for last night that there is still a lot left. So just a snack at lunchtime and curry again tonight.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all those in need/want of them. Take care and have a good Sunday xx

  • Morning All

A dull, drizzly morning here, always the same for a holiday weekend.

Didn't get much done yesterday, but caught up on some TV programmes I wanted to watch. Washing up to date and DW emptied, must give the hoover a bit of an outing later.

I need to go up to Glasgow today, DDs shop has some good bargains that will do for Christmas pressies. No trains from here today so will have to go in the car.

I have a streaming cold and sore throat but slept quite well even though I had a bit of a nap yesterday afternoon!

Hope you all have a good Sunday, take care. XX

    Morning everyone
Just sitting in bed with my breakfast and having a catch up on here, although I'll have to move soon to go down to my dad whilst my mam goes to church. Sunday is the my only morning I get to have a lazy start and I do enjoy it. Weather is looking ok for today - though we very rarely get Jackie's 20 degrees here even in the middle of summer! So I'm hoping to get the grass cut front and back this afternoon and some deadheading at the back.
Had a nice day yesterday. A busy morning getting a lot of jobs done and then I went to see my little great nephew in the afternoon and took him for a walk. At almost 6 months now, he really is the most gorgeous little boy with great big smiles.
Well, better get moving. hope everyone has a good day

    Morning all

Lovely bright day here, wm is on the go so will hang the wash out for a while today. I will ask DD to bring hers down too as I am sure her basket mush be full.

We got loads done yesterday, we washed all the window reveals and sills, we washed the blinds down and soaked some in the bath then hung them over the line outside to drip dry, we then re-hung the blinds, apart from two in the spare room which were on their last legs anyway, so I need to order new ones today.

OH then cut the back hedge and mowed the lawn while I hovered through downstairs, will have to do upstairs today.

I did not get to a shop so must do that today as stocks are running really low.

DD and her young man are here but are doing out for the day I think, he is such a nice chap.

Right I had better get on have good days all xx
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

It is a shock when someone of your own generation dies, yesterday I learnt that a childhood friend had passed away, he was the same age as me. He was one of twins, never married, but looked after his parents till they died. My thoughts are with his family today.

Its a bright morning, sun shining, the heat is off, the sitting room quite warm.

We had our uaual Sunday lie in with breakfast in bed, have just managed to get up. The gammon is in the pressure cooker and the veg done for supper, will allow the gammon to cool and then slice it, enough for tonight and tomorrow and then freeze the rest.

OH is in the garden, his headache much the same despite the increased medication. If we have not heard from the hospital next Monday we will be ringing the Dr again.

Not sure if I mentioned that the shed is to be delivered on Friday, the chaps will be here on the following Monday to put it up. I hope all goes well, cannot do with any more hassle just now.

My sewing machine should be back on Tuesday as well so I can get some sewing done, its only a few weeks to the artisan fair. I am going to have to sew almost everyday to make sure I have enough stock. Once the shed is up I can sort out the sewing room as well.

So gammon with mustard sauce, roast spuds and courgette, beans, and carrots for supper, we are still picking autumn rasps, so raspberries and cream for dessert.

    Morning folks.

It's typically grey, damp and generally yeugh here now. I went out earlier for a walk round the loch where the beavers are. It's only about a mile circular walk and everywhere are signs of activity. I'm aiming to get this walk done everyday, my fitness levels are shocking! On the way I dropped off a couple of whisky miniatures for my plumber / drainage bloke as a thank you.

Last night I went to sleep just after SCD and slept through to 7.00a.m. Now that I'm 'refreshed by nature' :rotfl: I've got some online work to do, emails to send and recorded TV programmes to watch. I'm going to fry some potatoes with bacon pieces and then pour over an egg for my lunch. Great way of using up bits and bobs, especially if I have the patience to let the potato slices go crispy!

The fire is laid in case the coldness comes later. We're promised rain again. I still can't get the grass cut so will stop stressing about it.

Emails are calling - I should do something about them.

Happy rest of Sunday to all.
