NCB over 2 years old .... any options to use it?

Hi,
Hoping someone can help out with this query. My wife sold her car at the start of 2015 so hasn't had any insurance in her name since then. At the time she had 7 years NCB. Since then (and even before that), she has been a named driver on my car and uses it regularly
We are now looking at getting a 2nd car again but wondering if we can use the NCB that she had before. Its been over 2 years so I'm not sure what the status is.
One other complication, as most insurance is done online, all the insurance docs she had were digital and I'm struggling to track down a copy of her last renewal - not even sure who we were insured with.
Is there some way to track down her last insurer through some central database - do insurers do this? OR does it look like sh has to bite the bullet and go back to square one and have a policy with 0 NCB.
Thanks in advance.
