Holiday of a LIFETIME to RIO CARNIVAL - HELP NEEDED!!!

I am organising a 3 week trip from Manchester to Brazil and need some guidance. Planning to go from 26th Jan - 16th Feb 08, but this is up for change if it makes sense to go at another time.
We plan to stay in Salvador for the week prior to the carnival and then go to Rio as it starts, returning to Salvador again, afterwards. Not sure if this is the best way to enjoy Brazil but I'm open to any ideas and suggestions. We are going to try to get a luxury villa in Salvador and maybe the same for the week in Brazil but even though I say luxury, the price will determine exactly what's really going to happen!
The main problem I'm having is that the flights are quite expensive. The cheapest I have found so far, were leaving from Gatwick, via Thomsonfly
£503 all in. The problem there was that we would have to get the train/fly to London and the Thomsonfly trip had 2 stops I believe. i have just been to try to find this flight again and have been unsuccessful.
Flying with KLM came back with £665.
Is there anyone who can advise on both the flights and accommodation and also where would be best to get the best from Brazil?
Thanks...D

Check the price of accommodation in Rio for carnival before booking flights, it is very expensive.

www.charterflight.co.uk can be very helpful
Air France have direct flights from Paris to RioPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
where were you planning to fly with Thomson Fly? last i saw they flew to Natal in Brazil, which is atleast 20 hours by bus from Salvador.... where in the UK are you? is gatwick that inconvenient? would've thought 500 quid return during carnival would be the best you could get
would've thought all the big european airlines would fly to rio. https://www.aireuropa.com do cheap flights direct to Salvador (and rio) from Madrid. TAP fly to all the big cities of brasil (including salvador) from Lisbon
shame mytravel don't fly from manchester to salvador anymore... that was ideal for me, and reasonable
you probably already know
but salvador is a loooooong way from rio. https://www.voegol.com.br https://www.voebra.com.br are brazilian budget carriers (might need some portuguese knowledge to negotiate the site) alongside the big boys Varig, TAM.

You can try 'Future Travel / Instant Holidays' 020 8443 3120
Ask for Pauline, she found a BA package for us going to RIO for £400
All the best as Brazil is great!

If you are going to the Rio Carnival . . .
don't forget to pack a heavily armed bodyguard in your luggage. :eek:The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.0
