Can a spayed cat get pregnant?

Ok please dont laugh at the title
In April I had my male and female cat spayed
Only after this point have I allowed them outside
They are brother and sister
The boy is short haired and the girl long haired
In the last month or so she had ballooned
Now a lot of it could be hair but it doesnt feel it. This is one big 10 month of cat. Much much larger than her brother.
Im now starting to cut down the food offered to them in a hope of getting some weight off of her. They share food and come and go as they like. So I think the boys getting upset at the lack of food.
So I guess im asking could she be expecting?
You hear of mens tubes joining back and similar.
I know I may well sound like im mad but her weight gain is massive.
Any advice is most welcome
2007 is my getting slim year
Total weight loss so far is 16llbs:T
Total to go 15 pounds:eek:
Not no more as im having a baby:D

It's surgery to remove the ovaries and uterus, so the short answer is No. However it means that the hormones are unsettled, which could lead to the weight gain you've noticed in her. If you're really worried, your vet will advise if she is still within the normal weight range. Well done for getting them done.
  • I know I probabily sounds paranoid but there my little angels
Im pregnant myself and so are the other 4 ladies in the houses next door, next door but one and the before that LOL
I think its something in the water
I think im going to keep going with the reduced food for a week and see how im going if not get in contact with my vet
Thanks for setting my mind at rest

If you trust your vet then no she can't. BUT.......About 4 years ago we rehomed a cat to a elderly gentleman who had had cats from the group before. As we had a virus in pens and a swe knew the adopter we allowed her to go before being neutered. Anyway, cat off to his vet gets "neutered" no problem, cat recovers cat becomes PREGNANT:eek:  The vet was very dismissive(probably as the new owner was very quiet and elderely. Branch got involved, was refered to Headquaters and they took action against the vet. That said, I am sure that your vet wouldn't be so crass(I KNOW its not the same one as he has retired) Good luck, both with your cats and your bump. Hope everything goes really well.

  • Is she very friendly? She could be getting fed elsewhere, especially as she has only gained the weight after being let out. Could also be worms causing her big belly, cats should be wormed every 3 months or so.
  • We do worm her with Drontal and she is very very pretty and very friendly
In fact she was wormed last week.
I point I should say is that she was picked up at my home with my male cat and taken to be spayed which involved an overnight stay
The local animal charity does it at a reduced rate where I am but they go overnight.
She is chipped and wears a collar

Animals getting spayed is effectively a hysterectomy, so no she can't be pregnant.

As for her weight gain, I know it's unlikely but given her ballooning weight, it could be a tumour or something, or some kind of bloating problem. I'd get in contact with the vet, and if money is a problem then the PDSA can help.

I know a cat that was spayed and then several years later she gave birth to 3 still born but almost full term kittens. My friend still had the receipt and consent forms from the op. The vet said it can happen if a little bit of tissue is accidentally left behind, but I don't see how that is biologically possible. How could a little bit of tissue sustain 3 kittens almost to full term?
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.
  • She can't get pregnant. But she can get fat. Usually cheap cat biscuits. We fed our old girl Aldi complete cat food and she ended up weighing 16lbs! best thing is to have regular fixed feed times and portion control.

Get the vet to check her out, it may be a phantom pregnancy, my mums dog gets them & they can be dangerous if left untreated!
