Replacing Basic Honeywell Dial Room stat with Salus RT500RF

Hey Guys,

Hoping this is a simple DIY, I have a standard dial room stat in the hall of my house, similar to the following:

https://www.screwfix.com/p/honeywell-t6360b-room-thermostat/26159

I have looked at the wiring and there are currently 4 wires, Red, yellow, Blue and the earth.

I am thinking of getting the Salus RT500RF

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003ERP1LE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A13FKJ9P65ASUH&psc=1#Ask

Will this be a straight swap?

Any help or guidance on this would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Ben

This product is a replacement for a programmer and thermostat combination.
The display unit is wireless (and battery powered), so you will not use the wiring of the existing thermostat.

The receiving unit will need to be mounted near your existing junction box (if S or Y Plan configuration i.e. if you have 2 or 3 port motorised valves for heating and hot water) and wiring alterations carried out there.

If you have a combi boiler, receiving unit will effectively replace existing programmer,

Thanks, all I want to do is replace the existing room stat in the hall with a more modern device and wireless if I can, so I can utilise in another room.

It sounds like the Salus is not the solution, do you have any recommendations or examples that will work?

    How about this one:

This version of the Salius is the same, but without the time control function.
The wireless thermostats (and/or programmers) send a signal to a remote unit where the switching control takes place. So whatever manufacturer you select, this will require wiring modifications at the junction box.

If you want a simple modern replacement for your existing thermostat, I would suggest
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Honeywell-DT90E1012-Digital-Room-Thermostat/dp/B003DTFP5A/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1506076923&sr=8-4&keywords=thermostat+Honeywell

This has the switching control built in, so no need for receiver boxes, but it isn't wireless (and still needs batteries for power)

Thanks, I was originally looking at this one but liked a wireless function however it seems this is more tricky than originally thought (was hoping I could wire in as per my current stat).

    Thanks,

Thats the standard room thermostat type .
Requires a live feed and neutral for power .
I just replaced standard room stat with this one .Thats what i had on my old thermostat 4 wires ( one live and neutral plus live in and then switch wire to switched boiler controls .
Sender unit is wired up as a direct replacement with wireless thermostat in another room .

I replaced my dial thermostat with a Programmable thermostat.
I just set the old timer CH function to be always ON.

    Works perfectly.
You may need the old timer to perform your HotWater function anyway!

Mine works perfectly, and can have added benefits that I can still use the Twice and Once feature of the timer.

I did the same as above I have the Salus Programmable wall mounted one (similar to one in original post but not wireless). Boiler programmer still used. Heating set to ON on original programmer in winter and hot water still controlled by original programmer.
  • Thanks Guys - how to I wire this up based upon my current wiring to the dial room stat? (red, yellow, blue and earth wires)

It depends upon what those wires are for .
    Salus RT300F has 4 terminals .

One for a Permanent Live Feed.
Two for a Permanent Neutral .<< Both to run the unit .

Three for the Live Feed from Heating Controls>>That is switched a live feed to the Boiler side of the heating control when the stats calls for heat .

I looked at the data sheet for the Salus wireless units, and as long as you have the permanent 240V power supply at the receiver location (existing thermostat) these will be fine, with the battery powered display unit being remote.
Either the single thermostat or the combined thermostat /programmer will work depending on your requirements.
