Help with type and brand of Paint

I'm now at the painting stage of our whole house renovation and I'm getting really confused about which paints to use. Most, but not all, of our walls and ceilings have been replastered and we've already gone through the house white washing the walls that have been newly plastered with watered down Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt Emulsion Pure Brilliant White. We're also doing all the ceilings in this as a finish and a lot of the walls too to give us a blank canvas to start with. Our use of this particular paint is largely accidental but we're looking for a timeless matt finish and have since read is a good paint choice.
However, we're also looking at introducing some subtle colours onto the walls in a few rooms and confused as to the paint brand and type to go for. Do I stick with Dulux Trade paints or should I just go with non-trade or another brand (happy to pay a bit more for better quality / finish)? And do I go with vinyl matt in a colour (presuming this is even possible) or is another type worth looking at - and can I even put a non vinyl paint on top of a vinyl paint / whitewash? Am I better off with something more hard-wearing in the kitchen / bathroom where there's condensation, or does the vinyl element help with that?
Sorry for all the questions - any advice would be highly appreciated!

I always thought vinyl paint was a no-no as a mist coat on new plaster. I could be wrong but I would do some research if I were you.
As a top coat I can't recommend crown trade scrubbable matt enough. Having also recently refurbed a house I will never use anything else again. It cleans easily and can be touched up without leaving any witness lines0 -
The DIY sheds can do good prices on emulsions - they bulk buy and shift loads. I would stick with one brand. Just anecdotal, but I have used B&Q own brand and found the vinyl silk thin and with poor covering ability. However the thinness did give an excellent finish. I have also used Crown from B&Q and again found this thin and needing more coats than i expected. But again the finish was good. I have not compared this Crown with Crown trade paint, but I suspect that to be far better - it was years back.
I stick with Leyland. If you adopt this approach, and go to a trade centre be it Dulux, Crown or Leyland etc you should negotiate an attractive discount. They will price match the sheds and they want to supply many paints. So a whole house is a worthwhile sale to them. They also would like you to buy all the sundries so hope you will be tempted here too!0 -
From what I've read, it looks as though Vinyl Matt is actually ok as a mist coat (phew!) but you should avoid Vinyl Silk as it could peel.
So basically, stick with trade versions of the paints and negotiate a decent discount?0 -

I have used loads of trade matt as a mist coat and not had problems. I think the names are confusing and one major paint brand admitted to me it is all bumph and marketing with paint names. Nothing is straightforward!
Yes, go to a trade counter and talk to them. It is difficult to play one off against another because discount will be off list price, and what does list price mean? Basically be savvy and go where you feel comfortable. I use my local Leyland branch because I feel comfortable going there. Nothing more scientific than that! But the products are also fine.0
