wickes also do a trade card which gives 10% discount. With wickes you know what the discount will be and most building materials tend to be slightly cheaper to start with in wickes than B&Q.

Needed some paint recently but it wasn't discount day, so priced up the paint at Homebase (other sheds are available) and it was cheaper even taking the B&Q diamond discount into account.
  • Thanks all. I did buy building supplies from a local builders supplier. They were cheaper than B&Q and also very helpful including delivering first thing Monday morning before anyone arrived to start work. Now I need to buy kitchen, shower room and doors.

As always, shop around before buying. A quick comparison of a Cook & Lewis 1000mm base unit is £34 from B&Q and £29.70 through the Trade Point counter. If you decide to go for a C&L kitchen, it would be worth getting a trade card - Just remember you won't get the same consumer protection though.

Cut the middle man out and give Alexander Cleghorn in Tiptree a call.

They supply kitchen cabinets to nearly every builders merchants and DIY store.

Discounts are for trade supplies only and covers what a builder would buy at a merchants. They are competitive, sheet materials, lumber, plumbers supplies, electrical supplies etc are all competitive with other merchants and are much cheaper than the B&Q customer gets.

Smaller things like 5 meters of cable instead on a 50 meter drum etc are not much cheaper but that's not really something a tradesman would buy anyway and they know it.

The kitchens work out better, you save about 20% on their kitchen ranges and are priced below the equivalent Howdens ones although you do need to build the cabinets.

There isn't any discount on general stuff from the shop floor but everything in the trade-point catalogue is aimed at the tradesman and is competitive.

There are plenty self employed people out there who think everything should be much cheaper because they have this trade card, but hairdressers don't need 15 bags of cement, this isn't the self employed punter they are aiming for.
