Life insurance policy back payments for non-disclosure

Can i therefore cancel the claim and the policy at this stage in the process or is it too late?
No. The event has happened and the insurer is aware.Haven't slept for the last two nights of the thought i might have a void policy on my records.
They may not void it. And if the adjust the premiums for increased risk, they will deduct that from the amount paid out under the claim.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thank you for your reply. Okay good to know.
If i cancel the policy now can they still make it void if i have already cancelled the insurance and no longer paying the premiums?0 -

Yes they can, because it removes them from any liability by doing so.
Let this be a lesson learned for disclosing the truth when asked at proposal stage.0 -
Eleanor. I'm looking at the previous comments etc to understand the current situation. It seems that your life assurance is now resolved and the occasional use of cannabis noted and your life policies can continue. This is good news.
With regard to your critical illness claim, you said that your past medical history issues have been reviewed and again noted as ok. I therefore assume that your claim is being reviewed to see if your medical condition meets the criteria for payment.
There is no need for you to "cancel" and indeed, you can't really "cancel" you would just stop paying premiums and the cover would lapse. It seems that what you failed to disclose on the original application has been resolved so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Insurers are used to dealing with situations when their clients realise they failed to answer questions accurately. This used to be a really big issue but has improved significantly. Naturally those clients who are deemed to be deliberately "cheating" will not attract any sympathy (and nor should they) but clients who have been negligent or careless will be treated differently.
I hope this situation resolve soon for you and don't "cancel" anything0 -
Thank you Chris for your reply. It's just a waiting game now i suppose but will wait and see.
I am surprised in all honesty that our life assurance didn't question further the cannabis use but then again i guess every insurer views things differently. We're with Aviva formally Friends Life.0 -
Following on from my previous points to this thread I have today received a letter from my critical illness insurers which says that my policy can remain despite the non-disclosure however they will be adding medical exclusions to my policy and have asked me to sign the letter and return it.
My claim remains open until such time as I have signed and returned the letter.
Do these exclusion which apply to my policy mean "special terms imposed" when asked the question on future insurance applications?
Many thanks0 -
