Working out gas usage

1428 on a m3 meter is 16,226kWh.
Method:
Work out difference between readings (in your case 1428)
Multiply this figure by volume correction factor (1.02264) (can vary slightly)
Multiply the result by calorific value (40.0) (can vary anywhere between 37 and 43 apparently - check your bill)
Divide the result by kWh conversion factor (3.6) and round up to the nearest whole number
And Bob's your uncle. 16,226kWh.

Or multiply by 11.2 for a rough figure, 1428 x 11.2 = 159940
