Cheap bay window covering solutions?

We rent and the front room came with a hideous dusty broken wooden blind. It made the room dark, damp feeling and unusable.

I bought a bendy curtain track fairly cheap and bodged some curtains together, but the whole thing has just fallen down. Im looking online and even at Argos a bay window pole is £45 (with poor reviews)

Are there any cheaper options? The blinds cant go back up they are disgusting. The bendy curtain pole didnt work. Help!

Cheapest option - speak to the landlord and get him to repair or replace the broken blind?

I've used this on mine. Been up for 2 years now with heavy curtains with blackout lining in the bedroom. All it needs it a spray with ordinary furinature polish every couple of months as it sticks a bit.

I used 1" stainless steel tube and three tee fittings for my bay window - Including bending and welding of the fittings, it cost less than an off-the-shelf pole and way less than having a custom pole made from a curtain/blind shop.

I did have to drill through the plaster ceiling so that I could screw the fittings securely to the timbers above. But now it is up, I can hang some pretty heavy curtains.

OP - How many support brackets did you use and were they fix to plasterboard or timber ?
