Yahoo email vexation!

I'm using the current version of Yahoo email - the one which says "Find messages, documents, photos or people" in the background of the search box, and which has a smiley icon for Messenger to the left of the Contacts list.
Every time I start typing an addressee for an email, up comes a list of suggestions. They seem to be people to whose emails I have replied, and for me this is a PITA because most of the suggestions are either obsolete or irrelevant. In previous versions, it was possible to go down the lists and delete as required, but that no longer seems to be the case.
These suggestions are not "Contacts", which are editable, so how on earth do I get rid of the useless ones in the lists that it throws up?
