Is lead in paint nowadays highly unlikely?

I bought a few small tins of paint in a pound shop (not the well known ones) three smalls tins of gloss, one for painting the metal and the other two for painting the wood on a garden bench.

What an odour came from them, and you can tell they are not quality paints, made in Bradford I think.

The thought crossed my mind, do these paints contain lead?

I take it this is highly unlikely?

Thanks

It's illegal to add lead to paint now and has been for a long time....Except in controlled renovation situations and even then permission is hard fought for.....So I doubt a paint manufactured in Bradford or anywhere else in the EU would have lead in it.....

By the way, that's not a Tech question.....;)

They shouldn't contain any lead. What make were they?

I wish they would put it back into paint, white gloss stayed white for ages, not now.and before everybody comes on saying it was removed for a reason,i know about lead poisoning.

Oh, well, that's OK then - expose everyone to lead poisoning because you want a more permanent white gloss!

(While you're at it, why not ask for lead to be put back into petrol...)

"Hamilton knew that lead had been poisoning people for thousands of years. In 1678, workers who made lead white - a pigment for paint - were described as suffering ailments including "dizziness in the head, with continuous great pain in the brows, blindness, stupidity". The Romans used lead in water pipes. Lead miners often ended up mad or dead - and some correctly intuited that low-level, long-term exposure was also unwise."

For those who cannot read i have underlined the above.
I also believe that it was not pure lead that was added to paint or petrol but i await the flames.:rotfl:

Even the paint commonly known as red lead doesn’t have lead and hasn’t for a long time.

If someone can't read, I'm not sure that underlining it would suddenly gift them with literacy....:)

Red lead paint is available to buy from most ship chandlers.

    Expensive though.
