GB Energy rant and question
Options
I switched to GB Energy last year after a comparison site stated I would save loads and E-ON were no longer doing the Tesco CC points.
I emailed GB energy in May 2017 querying my DD amount with them.
I had a reply from them that assured me the amount I was paying 'was in accordance with my consumption'.
On checking my account this week I have noticed I am in debt with them and need to pay them an additional £200.
I have again emailed, including the previous email. The reply this time is, including prices increases and checking my usage my DD needs to go from £90 a month to £191 !!
When I was with E-ON I did weekly meter readings and just paid it. Paying by DD monthly has NOT saved me money and also caused me to end up in debt. Even though I have sent regular meter readings.
I dread to think how much further in debt I would I got if I hadn't emailed again.
I am cross as I had queried this and they assured me it was fine.
When I change supplier what happens with this outstanding balance ?
Do I have to pay it before I can swap ?
Anyone else use a supplier and pay weekly or fortnightly with an up to date reading ?
I always added a few quid on over the summer ready for the winter.
Thank you

When you switch supplier, the old supplier should produce you a final bill (usually several weeks after the switch occurs)
The amount owed (either way) should then be settled.
If you are really struggling to settle the bill, you need to contact the supplier as soon as possible after receiving the demand and try to agree a repayment plan. Some suppliers may allow this, but typically they will want the full amount within 3 months i.e. an initial payment and then perhaps a couple more payments about a month apart to settle the outstanding balance.
Consideration will also be given as to how the outstanding balance accrued (e.g. have you been providing regular monthly meter readings), your income & expenditure, and a realistic amount you can afford to repay per month.
There is no advantage to anyone in setting you up on an agreed repayment plan that you will ineviatably fail because it is unaffordable for you.0
