Leave the old stuff up. You are creating a lot of work for yourself. Any plasterer worth his salt would run a mile if the board was done DIY and then he was expected to put it right. If it fails later you would blame him
Good work is not a cheap option, and despite being in the trade for 40+ years I would not plaster for a perfect finish..... its a pro job if you want it right,.....0 -
Sorry, I can't leave the old stuff up because its coming away from the walls in large sections.
I've no intention of fitting the plasterboard myself. The job is for a professional to fit the plasterboard and to skim coat it after I've stripped off the old lath & plaster.0 -
Do you need to remove the old lath and plaster at all? A good plasterer (like mine) will work over the lath and leave it as new.0

Yes, it all needs to come off.
The external walls are going to have insulation fitted and I was happy to leave the other walls untouched, but when I stripped the wallpaper from these walls, I found large areas where the plaster had detached from the laths and was almost falling off the walls.
I think my only option would be to have plaster re applied to the laths, or board and skim.0
