Admiral chasing for lapsed policy

Hi, wondering if anyone can shed a little light on whether I need to pay this or not:

Firstly:
Got a renewal notice from Admiral that I didn't fancy paying - knowing that the card I used for last years payment was no longer valid I just went ahead and bought insurance from someone else

Second:
Got a 'We were unable to take payment' notice from Admiral stating that they were unable to use the payment method(as expected)

Third:
Got another note from Admiral (~10 days later) saying that they would cancel my policy if no payment was made(assumed this was fine as have done similar things with other policies)

Fourth:
Now got an email from eui ltd(which is apparently Admiral) saying I need to pay for time on policy(which seems excessive for the extra time, but presume they've bunged some disproportional fee in there)

Question is - do I have to pay this money?(given that I never took the time to phone them and tell them I was switching elsewhere)

If you do nothing they will pursue you - and put a cancelled policy on your record (they aren't chasing you for the lapsed policy!)

    So get it sorted asap.

    Explain you got cover elsewhere

You should have followed the instructions in the renewal letter - if you didn't wish to take up Admiral's renewal offer, phone them and tell them you don't want to renew.

The letter states if you do nothing the policy will auto renew, which you instructed Admiral to do, and so they have tried to take the money causing these issues.

    Phone Admiral.

You are the sort of person who would complain if you wanted to stay and they hadn't been able to take the payment about being uninsured How are they to know you don't want to continue the policy if you don't speak to them - especially when the industry works on apathy.
