Local Searches

Can anyone tell me how to go about getting local searches carried out. Have been told by the estate agent that we are holding up the chain and the solicitor has said that he is awaiting the local search results, this has been going on for a couple of weeks now.
So how long do these normally take?
Starting to wish we had gone local and not online now!
Any advice appreciated,
Glenn

I don't think our searches took very long - perhaps a week/10 days.
Then again we did use a 'local' solicitor; I wonder if it does make any difference??

  • Local Searches - how long do they take? Depends on the area - anything from 2 to 20 working days!

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

Online and call centre solicitors are notoriously slow. As above, 1 - 3 weeks depending on which council.

It can take from around 5 days to 20 days. The best thing to do is phone the council directly and ask for the Land Charges department and ask them if a local authority search has been submitted for the property.

I did this on one occassion to discover that my solicitor hadn't even submitted the form!
