powerline or wi fi

I’ve just run network cabling for IP CCTV, it’s not hard and the result is a rock solid connection. You have to ask why offices use a mixture of CAT5/6 cabling and WiFi, not powerline adapters... mains wiring carries a lot of pulses and other noise, it’s far from good cabling for a reliable data connection - regardless of the claims from powerline adapter manufacturers.0

It's a very old box,not seen one like it before, looks in poor condition. When we had fibre here BT put a master socket which had separate connections for router and phone. Plusnet sorted this out, probably not now though as Fibre is self installed from what I see now0

No it's not like that, its grey rectangular box, cable goes in on one side, with socket on opposite side for phone, nothing on faceplate at all. Its in very poor visual condition, not very well fixed to wall. I've just been told BT charge around £150 to call to replace socket and £65 per hour after. My Fibre Broadband and phone is with Plusnet, but they send Openreach out to do this, I'm at a loss to know what to do know, the costs for what is a 20 min job are outrageous.0

If you don't have one of the later master sockets, openreach should fit a new one at no cost to you. Just make sure you tell them when ordering the service you have an ancient incoming junction box, not a master socket as such, and let them do the work......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

If you do not go with the extenders and you need admin access just buy a long ethernet cable for temporary connection. .
Router admin is accessible via wifi on any router as long as you can navigate to its ip address !!0 -

I have heard of BT Openreach/ISPs changing these for free but if not and you don't want to pay the fee it can easily be done yourself, however strictly speaking you're not allowed to touch the incoming cable as it remains the property of BTO.0 -
I use wifi and powerline adapters. The wifi is for my phone and two laptops, the powerline is for my PC because I tried a wifi adapter on it and it was terrible. I'll give you the speed comparison. I don't actually like wifi, it's fine for mobile devices, but anything else, it's just flaky. I would far rather sit down with a laptop and user an ethernet cable.
With the Wifi adapter on the PC the best speed I got was about 6Mbps. I changed to the powerline adapter I now get 170Mbps.
If I don't use it for a really long time it needs to be power cycled, but that's no hassle.0
