Debt-free and Proud!
Hi

We recently moved into a house with a boiler in the spare room that looks quite old and bit noisy(compared to the modern one we had in our rented flat), we was thinking of getting a new one as someone said you cant get cover/ repar/ plan if its older than so many years?

We was also looking at a new one because this has a timer but not a thermostat where you can set the temp only time of day to come one.
Has anyone recently purchased a boiler from anywhere/ eon/ british gas? and what would the price be for the whole package of removing old boiler, fitting new boiler as well as the cost for the person to fit?

thanks

No one knows the answer to your question. What you need to get are some advice/quotes from reputable installers. Depending on the condition of your heating system, it may also need to be cleaned/flushed as most boiler warranties are invalidated if the cause of the failure is found to be sludge which was disturbed due to the boiler replacement.

That said, if you want to take a chance, I have seen vans in the Midlands area with signage suggesting that if you buy the boiler, a man with a van will fit it in a day for a £1000. I am not sure how this impacts on the boiler manufacturer's warranty.

Find your local/county council's trusted trader list and get quotes for two or three local installers. You could try getting a quote from one of the big companies, but in our case British Gas quoted almost double the price of two local firms (they were within £50 of each other).

We paid about £2600 a couple of years ago for a Worcester Bosch boiler + filter, smart thermostat, one new radiator, some pipework modification and moving the boiler location.

There's nothing to stop you just getting a new thermostat that lets you set different temperatures at different times if you just want better control.

Has the existing boiler given you any reason to suspect it might fail? Or are you just being cautious.
