Sorry if I have used some terms incorrectly.
I have recently exchanged and will be having around 10 days overlap between completion and leaving keys of my current rented property.
Please can you advise me that for these 10 days, on what property do I have to pay

            Wouldn't it be both?0

You are responsible for the costs of your rented property until the tenancy ends.
You are responsible for the costs of your new purchased property from the date of ownership (Completion).
Who else would be responsible in either case?0 -
Yeah you will have to pay these on both after you complete, also water bills too.
We'll be trying for a 3 or 4 day overlap when we FTB from rented in a couple of months. Its dead money, but I understand you can't always control exactly when you complete.
Some utility companies require notice periods too so make sure you tell them you are planning to move!0 -
Utilities I agree you pay for both during the overlap.
Council tax, when I last did this, I told them what date I actually moved and got an empty property, or unfurnished discount on the property that was empty/unfurnished. That may have changed or vary by council so ring the councils involved and ask. In my old case the discount was on the new home initially and then the old rental as I moved in the middle of the gap. Have to pay full price for the occupied one as well.0 -

Indeed. But the critical point is that OP will be liable for CT on the new property from Completion. So must contact the council to set up an account from that date.Council tax, when I last did this, I told them what date I actually moved and got an empty property, or unfurnished discount on the property that was empty/unfurnished.
Whether he then qualifies for a discount (eg for unfurnished property) will vary by council, and would need to be applied for.0 -
            Thanks!
If I wanted to change the meter type in the property I have purchased (from key meter to standard credit meter), can I arrange that between exchange and completion or does it have to be after completion only.0 -

Speak to the current supplier and ask. They might schedule the work for the day after Completion. Thre may be a cost.harshitguptaiitr wrote: »Thanks!

When I moved recently I called round and explained they worked it out, even got some credit for the new place.0

Thanks for the advice and sharing experience. This has been helpful

I have one more question, at what point should I contact energy companies that I will be taking over and that I need a different tariff plan.
Currently, gas and electricity are supplied by different companies and I want to change the gas company.
Not sure when is it appropriate and legal for me to contact the new gas company that I want to take over. Is this something I need to ask estate agent?0 -
When you complete you will be on a deemed contract with the existing suppliers. Once you've given them your details and meter readings you're free to initiate a switch.
The EA have nothing to do with this.0
