If you saw the electrics like the picture below...?

If viewing a house and you saw the electrics like the picture below what would you think, new consumer unit, possible rewire?

Comments

  • yes to both, def new consumer unit and doesn't look earthed
  • The meter looks like my export meter for my solar panels.
  • I'd like to see the whole lot mounted on a non-combustible board. Is this under the stairs?

The wiring itself might still be in reasonable (re-usable) condition.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

I would think that any offer would need to include a caveat to cover potential work or have seller get a qualified electrician to give a report and estimates of potential work involved with that report and estimates passed on to you.

Lots of testing can be done easily but inspection of all can only be limited.

Then you can make up your mind finally to complete or withhold some finance to cover, or ensure the seller gets any work done to current standards by qualified electrician.

The work looks messy, not at all what should be expected of a competent person but that does not necessarily mean a rewire is required. However it would be costly (thousands) and a lot of mess if that were the case.

    Your choice.

Edit: meter looks to be a standard modern meter that can also be used for solar generation. Should not be a problem and not the home owners responsibility.
