CAB are a waste of time - don't bother.

Is the solicitor one you are paying for yourself? Again, a waste of time (and money) at this point and not needed.

All you need to do is follow the advice I've given thus far, it really isn't difficult.

I think this is going to be a huge problem; they wrote to you and you ignored it. Your inaction has caused them to lose their prime opportunity to reclaim their money, before it got transferred anywhere.

If I get in debt I sort it.

your problem is you need to convince a court. and it does look fishy!

If you know your 'friend' has a car, rents and works, have you tried talking to her? 23 years is a stupidly large time to then ruin a friend's life. Is it possible there was something in her life that made her so desperate she had to defraud the loan companies and lie to you? Is she also as naive to think she can get away with it?

As far as the companies will be concerned, you applied for the loans. Payday Loan Companies don't ask for guarantors, a simple Google search when you received the money would have shown this. A court will find it hard to believe that you didn't know what was going on. Especially as it took you over a year to decide you'd been the victim of fraud ! The repayments would have been taken from your account too, what did you think was going on for all that time ?

She probably can get away with it. The moment the money was received in OP's account she was responsible for it, regardless of who actually applied for the loan and exactly how it was obtained. Unfortunately, OP then decided to hand it over to her friend. I doubt the lender is going to take responsibility for that decision because they didn't make it.
