Concealed Cistern

  • Thanks for the suggestion, think it's beyond our DIY capabilities to be honest, there isn't much space between the top of the cistern and the counter it's under so think it would require removing the counter and sink that's attached. Don't want to mess around where water is concerned and end up in a bigger mess from leaks etc so think we'll have to get someone in that no doubt will charge a fortune!!
To give you a better idea here's a pic of the cistern and counter. Was fitted by the houses previous owners as we would never have gone for this setup ourselves.

Can't really tell anything from the photo, it's too blurry. I can echo what other people have said, it's easy. The central column is a bayonet fitting, like a light bulb so slight push down, anti-clockwise twist, lift up, tilt sideways so it's horizontal and you should be able to feed it out between your counter top and top of cistern. Fitting a new one is reverse of the above. Make sure you turn off the incoming water and flush the toilet.

Fair enough. I used not to mess around with plumbing, either, but have had several quotes over the years that were scary enough to prompt me to "have a go". It's fairly daunting when you first put spanner to pipework. :)
