RWG would normally stand for 'Rain Water Gully' and if it is located on private land then the pipe between RWG1 and MH3 would be private and therefore coloured orange.

What is missing, and is essential, is an indication of levels or depths of manholes. Without depth information it is difficult to judge the scale of work required, and also the feasibility of what you propose.

It also appears that the surface water pipes downstream of MH3 are largely guesswork and as the surface water run apparently crosses the foul water sewer twice, level differences will be an important issue.

I'll check with them on Monday, but I'm pretty sure it runs to the garage that is near the back of the garden in my diagram. It's the fact it is blue in the diagram that confuses me, I think it should be orange like you say.

My bad, I didn't check the footage they sent which has more info.

    Hopefully this is legible!...

I've added depths to the above plan if that's any help.

Regarding the pipes downstream of MH3, they say "We have been able to survey from manhole 2 to check the condition but it is not possible to survey the other line. This is because there is no access to the line that runs to RWG3".

The footage seems to show RWG3 joins fairly soon downstream from MH3, at ~0.9m. So, their plan is probably somewhat off!

I didn't bother to put it on my plan, but it's at the bottom of the garden.

There is a garage which I think is fairly old.

Pretty sure that the guttering is RWG1.

Ideally we'll want to move the driveway to the front of the property and make use of the entire back garden space.

The drive is at the bottom of the garden because they probably couldn't get permission to have a drive near to a road corner.

Possibly. The garage and drive have always been in that location. The house opposite has a drive to the front which is also on a corner.

Are drives on corners something you know which is flagged up with regards to permission? I'm trying to find something online that confirms...

If the drive and garage have always been in that position then it was probably a planning decision for it to go there and you probably won't be able to move it.

Okay, thanks. I'll phone up planning people at the council on Monday.

Which is the depth information? Is it the measurement labeled 'Start'?

What happens downstream of MH3 clearly isn't as shown on the plan ;) It would also be of some concern to me if I wanted the sewers moved as there are some complicating factors.

To start with I'd say the 0.9m distance from MH3 that the connection from RWG3 joins would imply that the line from RWG3 runs more or less parallel with the flank wall of the house, rather than diagonally as shown. That isn't a major issue on its own, but it is slightly odd to take this run all the way back almost to MH3, but then not site MH3 at that connection point. If the pipe from RWG3 joins the sewer at a connection rather than in a manhole then the logical thing is to take it on the shortest route.

More concerning is the reduction in diameter from 6" to 4" and the apparent left-hand bend downstream of MH3. What this says to me is that the water company may have concerns over the diversion of the pipe as a reduction in diameter will have a capacity restricting effect, and diverting the pipe is likely to add additional capacity constraints.

From the water company's perspective I'd want to know why the pipe size reduces, and possibly consider asking you to pay for the replacement of the pipe all the way up to the main sewer if the changes you need made are likely to further reduce capacity.

Do you know what was on the site before the house was built? The arrangement downstream of MH3 suggests some previous drainage system which has been adapted to serve the houses.
