Hotpoint WD865A Washer Dryer - Help

Hi All,

Not sure if anyone has experience with or had the same problem, 2 weeks after the 12 month warranty the dryer has packed in on my above machine (drum turns as if it's working when dryer is switched on but clothes come out still wet and cold). This is really frustrating as I've not even used the dryer that often! I've checked every potential cause of the problem listed in the troubleshooting section of the manual and typically everything is in order. I've been told Hotpoint offer an 9 year guarantee on all parts, however I would imagine they charge you appox. £100 to send their engineer round. Last time we had a (different) problem with our (previous) idestit washer/dryer we were lucky enough to be correctly advised as to what the problem might be and my partner successfully replaced the pump - so here's hoping someone can offer some help/advice.

  • Don't know if its the same on a washer/dryer, but the same thing happened on my dryer ie: there was no heat. The answer was quite simple in that the thermal cut off had failed. My oh who is experienced shorted out the thermostat and it worked fine, so it was just a matter of buying an easily available replacement from our local spares shop. Or you can buy on-line from eSpares Ltd (Sorry don't know how to do a link) Don't forget quidco for 10% cash back. Hope this helps.

This was one of several faults I had with my WD865A. The repair was quick (repair man from Hotpoint cost £89).

It's worth visiting the forums at https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk. It's a great place for advice from the professionals and knowledable amateur.
  • Like you, I had a problem with my WD865A washer dryer a couple of weeks after the warranty ran out. The first thing I did was to contact Hotpoint customer services to complain, basically stating that as I live on my own the washer/dryer had only had very light use over the past year and that I would have expected a Hotpoint machine to last longer, etc., etc.

As I expected, customer services basically said "these things happen, you were unlucky, there's nothing we can do".

Not one to give up, I then looked online to find the e-mail address of the top man at Hotpoint. I composed a very angry letter to explain the situation (it was a bit over the top, but needs must!) and sent it to him. A couple of days later I received a phone call from a lady who I think was his secretary to arrange a date for the repairman to come and fix my machine. For free! Hence my machine worked perfectly again and I saved myself approx. £189 (which I was informed by the repairman was the cost of the repair).

Get in touch with Hotpoint, lay it on a bit, and see what happens...

    Good luck!
