EE phone & Broadband - charge to use 18185

Can anyone help with a definitive answer on the costs of using 18185 when on EE? Given how much EE charge just to connect the call, I want to be sure that I won't have to pay the EE connection fee everytime I use 18185 as well as paying 18185. Can anyone confirm what the real life costs actually are? Id be v grateful to know.

The whole point of inderect access numbers starting 1xxx or 1xxxx is that you don't pay anything to your landline phone provider other than line rental and for any calls you make that you do not route through the indirect access provider.

It is possible EE charge if dialling using the 18185 prefix, but if you use the freephone 0808 1703703 they cannot charge.

Just noticed all the Finara sites are now charging 2ppm to call landlines, up from 1.2ppm using the prefix and up from 1ppm using 0808. Although the sites are stating 1.5ppm, the message states 2ppm calling a landline.

Given that most landline providers offer Unlimited Anytime calls to UK geographic numbers starting 01 and 02, non-geographic numbers starting 03 and, in many cases, UK mobile numbers starting 071 to 075 and 077 to 079 for around £8 per month, the usefulness of indirect access providers for making calls to ordinary UK landline and mobile numbers is declining.

Indeed, where a landline provider also offers inclusive calls to premium 0845 or 0870 numbers an opportunity exists to use various dial-through providers to make calls to other 084 and 087 numbers, and to a variety of international destinations with no further call charges. Some dial-through providers can also be used to call UK mobile numbers, again with no further charges.

They have both finally got round to showing 2p a minute for using the 0808 number.

Both still show 1.5 a minute using the prefix. I'm don't know if that's what they are actually charging.

I suspect 1p mobile could be getting themselves a lot of new customers shortly. :D

Given that accessing the free-to-caller 0808 number means the call-routing provider has to pay a per-minute rated Call Origination Fee to the caller's phone provider, I would expect the rate charged to the caller to be higher when using the 0808 access number than when using the 1xxx or 1xxxx indirect access number.

You would think so wouldn't you. However, in many cases it's still cheaper to use the 0808 free phone number.

I often call Spanish landlines. It's half the price (1ppm instead of 2ppm) using the freephone number. Strange. :)
