There's nothing much you can do except to keep reminding yourself when the worries strike that worry won't help. Just keep repeating 'worrying won't help' when the anxious thoughts invade, it does help.

I do remember a day of absolute torture waiting for final confirmation of our most recent mortgage, though - there was no reason to believe it might not happen but we'd had so many incidences of bad luck around that time and it was taking so long that it just drove me spare, so I totally sympathise.
  • I'm the same! My broker submitted my application last Wednesday and I haven't heard a thing so I'm just constantly thinking about it, driving me crazy!

  • Just received my application approved from Halifax!
Try and channel your worry into something productive. This could be an action plan if your application fails, what will you do over the next few months to make sure a second application would succeed?
One way or another you will get there in the end! Keep your chin up
  • We are also in the process of waiting for final confirmation for a mortgage...i paid off a catalogue few days beforr we applied and cleared the balance yet the account atill remains open until they process it to close it did i need to declare this when we applied for the mortgage or not?theres no money outstanding to pay back on it though but a credit limit still available until its closed
  • Don’t worry about the mortgage. Even if something goes wrong and the lender won’t proceed, for whatever reason, it’s not insurmountable as your Broker will, more than likely, be able to find an alternative solution.

Practise staying calm and collected now, because the mortgage anxiety is nothing in comparison to how stressful the conveyancing stage can be. Days, weeks can go by back and forthing over the smallest of details and solicitors, in general, aren’t very good at keeping you abreast of what’s going on.

Not trying to make you dread it, but the best advice I can give for the long weeks ahead is just try as much as possible to get on with your normal day to day life. I wasted too many days early on fretting endlessly, refreshing my emails, looking at my phone every two minutes. It’s enough to make you ill. Ask people to update you at specific times, even if it’s just a quick “nothing to report”.

    Best of luck.
  • We got our mortgage to buy our property 2 years ago with Halifax and they approved our mortgage and partner had a 4 year old satisfied CCJ.

We are now 2 years into the mortgage and come out of our fixed term...go to move to another deal....mortgage denied, and wait for it.....for not being on the electoral roll......ive sent proof that we both are and its still a no.........

Ive lost all my faith in Halifax!

  • You have my every sympathy, Mogie. Waiting for our mortgage decision was one of the most stressful weeks of my life (and I have had a pretty stressful life). I felt completely obsessed with it and nervous every minute of the day. Every time an email pinged up I felt sick to my stomach.

Obviously, I wasn't able to quell my stress completely, but one thing that did really help was telling myself that there was a Plan B. You, like us, are going with a mainstream lender right now. That's not the last resort. If they reject then go to a broker and try elsewhere.

Conveyancing was a breeze once I knew that the mortgage was in place. Good luck, and be a friend to yourself.
