Do i need to spend my toys r us gift card asap

Options
Trying to read around on consumer rights, but i think in most cases if the company goes bust you lose your money on gift cards. My son has £50 of toys r us gift card credit. I did try recently to spend some of this but the gift card was faulty and they told me instore that it had no money on it. So i dont want to loose out, just wasnt quite ready to do the christmas shop just yet

I think I would, given the state that they appear to be in.
If you don't know what you want, get something you can sell on - better than losing the £50. Has the card been sorted so you can use it now?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I think you need to sort the fact it's faulty and has no money on it before worrying about spending it.

I got it sorted but wasnt planning to go shopping again but hearing the news i think i might have to use his card sooner than planned. Better to have love to shop cards or similar then u can use them in lots of places.

Better to have cash - its accepted everywhere and will never expire.
  • Buy something that you can either gift to others, your son or resell. Lego or small popular items.

Only the US and Canada are affected by their current issues and it sounds likely they'll secure funding and restructure anyway.

They've also said that stores will remain open during the Christmas period.

Even though it's in the US the worldwide assets will come into the equation somewhere down the line so spend the money now whilst you still can.

There is little chance of anything happening to the stores for a while yet, as the administrators will step in to run them but you never know.
  • I would just to be on the safe side.

    Big fuss over nothing.

Toys r Us are owned by a private equity firm, they use Chapter 11 protection to get rid of the debts they inherited but keep the good bits. This is how private equity firms make their money, nothing out of the ordinary.

With regard to the UK operation, its profits rose 80% over the last financial year. They're not going under anytime soon.
