MSE/ PlusNet New Customer Offer

Hi,

I just wanted to ask if this is correct:

I am a new PlusNet customer (was a customer last 12 months ago). I saw the offer on this page - https://broadband.moneysavingexpert.com/?_ga=2.52015657.1859328863.1505549398-1222062272.1473246649

I tried to sign up online today but couldn't as the current occupant of the property (I am moving in over the weekend) has a service with PlusNet until their final day at the property, Friday 22nd, when it will be disconnected. The website won't allow me to register as a new customer. (Different details/ people entirely.)

I called instead & was put through to sales. I quoted the MSE offer & read details off the webpage. I quoted £15.66 if you paid line rental 1 year in advance. The salesman could see the figure I quoted but said he couldn't get it on the system, the closest he could get me was £16.49 per month.

I ended up paying £207.88 in advance for the service. 12 months line rental paid in advance, free broadband, no phone package, free router. That included the £10 install fee as well. (I know I have to claim back the £50 later.)

Sorry to be so long winded but my concern was I signed up thinking I'd get £15.66/ mth but then couldn't.

Is the MSE math incorrect or was I mischarged?

Many thanks,
Sharon.

Why didn't you say 'thanks but no thanks' when you were quoted £16.49 but expecting £15.66? Was the price not confirmed to you before you accepted?

From the FAQ page of the MSE BB page:
Do I have to complete the application online to get the offer?

Most of the time, yes. When you call up you're likely to be offered a different deal, often not as strong as the online one.
So it seems like you were indeed offered a different deal.
  • Hi,

I took the offer as it was still comparatively speaking a good one, not just the one quoted on the MSE site, hence my query on the MSE site.

I believe I've provided information regarding my circumstance & pricing info in my question.
    Thanks - S.

It wasn't clear whether they had confirmed the price beforehand in your post, as you said you signed up thinking the price would be £15.66 which led me to believe they hadn't told you the price would be different.

Ok, so in answer to this question...
Is the MSE math incorrect or was I mischarged?

The answer is neither, as you accepted a different deal.

However, the main issue is are you happy with the deal you got? You seem to be, so that is the important thing.

That is roughly the same deal that I had a year ago, but line rental was £1 cheaper then, so line rental saver made an effective £15.49 for line.

I also had a PlusNet direct cheque for £40 (?) ,but discount that as leaving will cost £30 unless I move to BT.
  • Hi all,

Many thanks for your responses. I think I've not made myself clear, essentially I'm questioning the MSE math behind this deal - as the workings aren't given.

I can assure you that the pricing was discussed & agreed beforehand, so that is not my issue. I am mostly in control of my faculties and not looking to assign blame elsewhere. The issue is that PlusNet couldn't match the published price on MSE.

With regard to my not doing this online, in this instance I couldn't & I'm not convinced this is the issue. I recommended a MSE/ PlusNet offer to a friend last year & they also signed up to the offer by phone & the pricing was matched. They couldn't do their signup online either as the current flat occupant was already a PlusNet customer & their system doesn't allow it.

I saw the price I got was the advertised price on the MoneySupermarket site but was wondering how MSE came up with their price.

    Thanks - S.
