AEG cooker stopped working after just 3 years

We purchased an AEG Cooker as part of a new kitchen from Wicks. After just over 3 years the cooker has stopped working . it is out of guarantee and Wicks do not want to know. We did not realize AEG was part of the Electrolux Group we thought they were a good German company. Our experience of Electrolux Group goods in the past has been terrible. The problem we have is the fan oven does not heat up (it only gets warm) although the light come on, the clock works and the fan works. We think the problem is probably the heating element that needs replacing, which does not look a difficult job. Does that sounds the likely fault to anyone with more knowledge. if is an really complicated problem then we will have to bear the high cost of getting an engineer to our home. Thank you for any advise. AEG only gave a one year warranty which does not show much faith in their product.

Heating elements are generally between £10 and £20.
Plenty "how to" videos on youtube0 -
I have an AEG oven and it tsopped working just under 4 years after purchasing. I keep having to replace parts. They are useless. The heating element does sound a possibility. Look on the E spares web site under appliance repair help which might help you identify the problem. Also videos are available showing you how to carry out repairs yourself http://www.espares.co.uk/advice. We paid about £32 for our heating element from them last year for our AEG Fan Oven0

Without belittling the problem electric cookers are actually pretty easy things to repair.
The most common fault is an element, a little bit of fat or improper cleaning can cause hot spots that blow them.
The next culprit is a simple thermostat and that about it really. Both simple to replace for anyone who knows how to hold a screwdriver.0 -
Take the cover off the fan & element & you can usually see the damage on the element.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

AEG are not the most reliable brand, but surely you would expect a cooker to last more than 3 to 4 years before requiring replacement parts. Both wicks and Magnet use them for their kitchen ovens and dishwahers I don't think you can have any comeback except to avoid purchasing goods manufactured by the Electrolux group in the future. it does sound like the heating element needs replacing. Make sure you have a torque screwdriver as you will need this to remove the back of the oven. Good luck0

I had a continual problem with my AEG cooker after purchasing as part of a deal with a Wicks fitted kitchen. I am also aware that Wren Kitchens and Magnet offer AEG oven as part of their deals. AEG are part of the Electroloux group which includes Zanussi. I also had an unreliable Zanussi washing machine that only lasted 18 months, I will never again purchase anything again from any company that is part of the Electrolux Any complaint is replied saying you should have taken out an extended warranty( at a high cost). If they had confidence in their goods they would offer more than a one year standard guarantee. Bosch, Samsung and LG all offer standard guarantees of between 2 and 5 years and all in my view are more reliable. Who else has had similar experiences.0

Our ~£600 AEG combi oven went bang after about two years, a local AEG specialist (independent) said around 400 to replace the board but he couldn't guarantee it wouldn't just do the same thing. Our AEG built in fridge munches through hinges. Wouldn't buy another AEG appliance.0

My experience with AEG cookers is very bad. after having constant problems over 4 years have now replaced with a Bosch which so far seems excellent. I have always been pleased with Bosch electrical appliances in the past. AEG reputation for reliable and longevity is atrocious.0

I had problems if varying degrees with every AEG appliance I had as part of a Wickes kitchen install. The worst being a combi microwave grill.
I had never used the grill part of the microwave, but after a year and a bit the microwave packed up. As it was out of guarantee, I got a local repair man to come and take a look. He took the front off and the circuit board had completely melted. The repair guy said it would be over £200 for a new circuit board. After complaining to AEG, they agreed to carry out an ‘out of guarantee’ repair free of charge. It may be worth complaining first - you may get AEG to step up.0 -
I just would like to add my "Two Pennys Worth" by saying we have continually encountered problems with AEG appliances, breaking down after just over 2 years and continually have to buy new parts. Like the originator of this post the AEG appliances were part of the package when we got a new kitchen fitted from Wicks who obviously must het a large rake from AEG. If getting a new kitchen from Wicks you can purchase you own appliaces Bosch etc and they will still fit them when installing your new kitchen. From my experience avoid AEG appliaces at all costs in the end you will end up saving money by taking this option.0
