You don't generally need to clean the registry. If you specifically want to remove old keys, I'd remove then manually.

Surely it’s a good thing to do if an application that was causing problems does not get fully removed. Leftover stuff can affect the smooth operation of the system cant it?
Don’t know how to do it manually.

I have 64 bit system. Nothing found with free Malwarebytes scan and currently doing full scan with Kaspersky Internet Security.
I've used ccleaner for years and always found it a great piece of software. Depressing to read how it's been afflicted/affected.
Update - my Kaspersky scan has identified two infected CCleaner files, has carried out a disinfection process and has quarantined the infected files. I've now deleted them.
Perhaps it's time to say goodbye to ccleaner?

If you want to keep it run the software updater in Kaspersky as it should find the latest update.

Thanks but I am running and have always run the 64 bit version of ccleaner and cannot understand why Malwarebytes picked up Floxit yesterday morning if the 32 bit version was only affected.

Yup - two 64 bit machines infected here but strangely, the 32 bit was free of infection. Same basic suite of software/protection tools on all three.
  • Are there any alternatives to ccleaner that members can recommend?
I'll throw my hat in the ring and say that Glary Utilities seems like quite a useful piece of software.

  • For the few asking about an alternative to CCleaner, you could try

    PrivaZer

As with CCleaner though, if you are unsure about what you should be cleaning leave the software in its default mode until you have learned about its capabilities.

I asked my security on their Facebook page and they mentioned the bleach bit one mentioned earlier in the thread.

They seem to have streamlined the update process too, so you no longer have to download the installer and manually run it.
