router

Does the router have to be attached to the master socket or can I use it on my extension socket

Should always be used on the Master to avoid loss of sync speed and/or snrm :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

You can use a router on any socket provided that socket is not fed from a filter for phone use. I cannot think of any master sockets that provide extension sockets that way off hand but it is a possibility.
You still need to have a filter in circuit that provides a broadband outlet. Often the stand alone filters have both a broadband outlet for connecting your router and one for plugging in a telephone.

If your phone is connected into the master socket (or another extension) it still needs to also be fed via a filter, either built in to the master socket or another external one. So you may need two filters , i.e. one at every location in use.

The downside of having a router connected to an extension (as in the above post) is that the broadband speed will be slightly slower from that obtained at the master socket but it might just be marginally slower (and still faster than WiFi connection) so could be perfectly acceptable to you and a much more convenient position. It is not essential to be plugged into the master. Mine has not been for many a year.

APOLOGISE i AM NOT VERY TECHY AT ALL. I GUESS THIS MEANS I PUT A FILTER INTO THE EXTENSION SOCKET AND THEN CONNECT MY ROUTER TO THE FILTER

    Correct.

But it might be best if you can work from the master initially till the router gets working (proof of your signal)......or try the extension initially -but if it does not work from there try at the master socket. Just thinking of the possibility that there is already a filter in the feed to the extension (that is only suitable for a phone - unlikely) -you should not have two filters connected in series (effectively one plugged into another) - ......or your signal from the exchange is so poor that the extra degradation caused by connecting at the extension proves to be unworkable -also unlikely.

Give it a try, no harm will be done.
