Cancelling a credit card application

Hello

I would be really grateful for some advice I have applied for a credit card so I can arrange a balance transfer. The paper work came in the post today but since applying and being accepted I no longer want the card. What should I do next? Ignore the contract? Call to cancel the application? Send the paper work back and get the card and then cancel it? How does it affect my credit score in the minimal way?

I have ended up using an old credit card to transforms balance. I'm annoyed now that I have applied for a cc for no reason. Our mortgage is due for renewal in a few months and I don't want to mess up my credit score.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Ooh and if you apply for a cc but ring to cancel it on the same day will this still have an impact on your credit history??

Many thanks

  • Either don't return it or let them know.

The search will appear on your file. Your score may go up, down or stay the same, but no one sees it and it doesn't matter, so that's fine.

One search is unlikely to be a dealbreaker for any lender unless you're a verty marginal case.
