Emulsion paint on carpet

A friend of mine has just text me - obviously very unhappy. she's just spilt a pot of paint on her carpet.

Any suggestions on how to get it out? Or is it impossible? It's quite a big room and I know she will not have the money to replace the carpet.

She's not insured for accidental damage.

    Oh no!

she needs to tackle it when wet if poss to stop it hardening. Emulsions are usually water solvent when wet and water resistant when dry. If it were me I'd scoop and scrape (and scrape) as much up as poss with an old spoon, and then Wash the area with warm water and a little squirt of washing up liquid over and over til carpet's looking same colour again. Might take buckets of water. After each wetting, soak up excess with old towel, j-cloth or kitchen paper.

    hth!;)

I know cleaning up the emulsion will be very messy, but I've always found that just warm soapy water and lots of elbow grease will get it out eventually. It will just take some time. Obviously, you can lift the majority of the paint off with paper towels/old tea towel etc but then just carry on with the soapy water. Hope it comes out for her...

    Hello everyone!
I am all new to this website and been looking around for an answer in the last 20 mins before deciding to post a new thread. Well spent 5 mins looking for carpet problems and spent the rest looking at random subjects :D Really good forum here.

Anyway, yesterday i was starting loosing control after being ill for 2 weeks and threw a pot of paint at the wall by anger. Obviously the pot of paint opened up and therefor, all the paint went everywhere on the floor.

I would like to know if there is a way i can clean up this silly mess or not??

I know i look stupid but I really need your help!
    Thanks for your time guys!

    Welcome to the board.

I cannot help you myself but you may need to post what type of paint it is e.g. gloss, emulsion etc.
  • If you have accidental damage cover on your household insurance you might be able to make a claim on that - worth a look.

Yesterday? Too late, I would say. New carpet.

It sounds like "al ot of paint" went all over the carpet and "yesterday" so I can't really help with how you would get that but would suggest it is unlikely. If it's a rented property, whether the landlord claims on his/her insurance or not, I would suggest you are looking at the cost of a carpet being deducted from your deposit potentially. I won't go into whether the landlord has given you an inventory/protected your deposit etc as the long and short of it is, you caused the damage so it's going to cost you. Good news is, hopefully the landlord put down a cheap carpet as its a rented property. I doubt he/she would claim on insurance as it won't be worth it for them what with the excess payable and the increase in premiums if a claim is made.

Maybe someone will assist you in how to get it out but I would suggest as above they would need more info.

if it is emulsion and still wet, post again, you're in with a chance - but it'll be hard work! once it's dry you've pretty much had it.
