Npower posted someone else's debt and default onto my credit file

I informed Npower that my tenant had moved out back in June 2017 - the bills were in his name. New accounts were then made in my name. I knew legally I was not responsible for his debt but nevertheless I was still told by the Npower rep on the phone not to worry about it.

In August 2017 I was declined for a remortgage due to a default on my credit file. Unbeknownst to me Npower had put the aforementioned tenant’s debt and default on to my credit report! I was shocked.

I called Npower immediately and informed them of their mistake. I spoke to the Ombudsmen within the first week of finding out and they put me in touch with Npower’s escalated complaints department.

I have sent the tenancy agreements, his ID and proof that he moved out. It's been five weeks since the initial complaint and they still have not removed this debt and default from my credit file.

My livelihood is at stake here and the anxiety and stress is taking its toll on me now.

Is there anything further I can do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Probably best to go straight to a solicitor with this one. I would tend not to bother trying to sort it out with nPower now.
