let sleeping dogs lie?

i hope someone can help shed some light on whats going on with my credit file.....

i was in a DMP back in 2009 as a marriage breakdown had left me with a load of debt, October '11 i lost my job and and had to stop the DMP.

between now and then, I've had no credit nor have i attempted to get any and I've successfully "won" a CCJ attempt by using the advice from you guys on here and the legal beagles forum.

So my quandary ... I've checked my credit file with Experian and its clear with the exception of a default registered with a DCA but the default is registered in 2013 but i didn't make those payments. PLUS... I'm not quite at the 6 year point for the other debts to be Statute Barred so why are they not on my file? I'm trying to understand this before i try and contest the incorrect info on my file as not to wake the dead so to speak...

any advise or knowledge shared would be greatfuly received.

  • If you feel the default should be dated earlier, dispute it.

    Your other debts have no bearing on it. They may report to one of the other CRAs. Make sure you check all three.

    Your other accounts may be shown on a different CRA.

    There are no hard and fast rules on defaults, only guidelines, they suggest a default should be placed if you have missed between 3 and 6 contractual payments, most creditors abide by the guidelines, some do not, especially debt purchasers, so as above, if you thing the default date is incorrect, complain to the creditor.

    So, just canceled My Equifax subscription that the free trial was due to expire shortly, but still can't access the site.

    So signed up for Clear score and there are no recorded problems on there, not even the incorrect defaulted agreement with Cabot... but just found the MSE Credit Club so will go for that too to try and get a better picture of whats happening.
