Will tax credits not know if I claim UC? If that's the case then I would probably wait to tell them and pay the overpayment back when UC is paid?
When you have gone through your identity checks and UC are satisfied you meet the first four basic conditions (age, residency, not in education etc...) then they will tell HMRC and your tax credits will be stopped. So you may have some time without money.

Sorry to act daft if you receive universal credit , does that mean no more trips to the council? for housing benefit?Debt £10k , HMRC £3K old debt £4k Jan 2021
