I thought it was available on the NHSYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
We had a similar problem with a washer dryer and after 15 months they had been out four times for the same issue,we advised the retailer the goods were not fit for purpose and after a few e mails i was told a new upgraded model was being delivered the following Saturday0

well, whatever Act it was it worked!!
my quote:
Government legislation states that "goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory" I'm pretty confident that any reasonable person (and indeed the small claims court) would not consider two breakdowns in 12 months of usage as a satisfactory standard. Especially as this was a replacement for a sub-standard and dangerous product in the first place.
I will have it repaired - but I will then seek the full costs from yourselves via the small claims court under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I will also make sure this is widely publicised as an example of a company trying to hide behind warranties and not fulfilling its legal obligations to consumers to provide products of satisfactory quality. You can of course avoid this course of action by repairing it or replacing it free of charge first.

Anyway, as an update to all of this. They replaced the part and then it broke down again a week later. We now have a new tumble dryer. The guy who replaced it said it wasn't the first he had replaced.0 -
CRA 2015 does not apply to claims against the manufacturer. Your legal rights are with the retailer, with whom you have the contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Would be handy to know the model number. Just ordered an indesit dryer from Argos IDC8t3b and now concerned that it's a load of rubbish. Any thoughts ?0

This is correct, although the OP does not state where he purchased from, so CRA 2015 DOES apply to claims against the manufacturer, as long as the manufacturer themselves were the retailer.0 -
yes, sorry - that wasn't clear. It was purchased direct from them as a replacement for the ones that were defective.0

Please share how you managed this?! I have been emailing for months now, purchased a new one direct from them following the recall and now on its 3rd breakdown within the first 8 months!!!0

Has anyone else noticed that it takes an awful long time for their upgraded dryer to dry washing. Not a patch on what it used to be. Have they dumbed down the temp settings in light of the original problem?0

Not quite the same issue but my Hotpoint TDWSF83BEP condensor tumble dryer broke down a couple of days ago, just 3 weeks after the expiry date of the 12 month warranty. The dryer is the £99 upgraded replacement model Hotpoint offered me after recalling our previous model last year due to the much publicised risk of fire caused by fluff coming into contact with it's heating elements issue. Finding out that I would have had to wait 5 months for the modification by their engineer if I didn't opt to pay for the new dryer, it was pretty much hobson's choice really. The new dryer hasn't even had much use in the last year, but broke down mid-cycle with what looks like a total power failure as I don't even get a light or error code on the panel. I changed the fuse but that was not the problem.
I rang Hotpoint support yesterday and was initially told by the customer services lady that it was now out of warranty so I would have to pay for it to be repaired. However, when I said that less than 13 months use since new is not a reasonable fault-free period for a Hotpoint premium product and mentioned the Consumer Rights Act of 2015 and the EU directive that goods should be guaranteed for a minimum of 2 years, her tone changed. She went away, spoke to a colleague and they have agreed that a Hotpoint engineer will fix it free of charge sometime between 7.15 am and 8pm tomorrow.
Update: The problem was due to a failure of the electronic controller which the engineer has now replaced. I guess this proves that if you don't ask, you won't get, and standing up for your consumer rights is definitely worth the effort.0
