Credit Card Fees

If I make a deposit today for a holiday in April 2018 I have to pay a 2% cc fee.I have to pay the balance by 31/1/18.
The government is due to scrap these fees from 13/1/18
Do I have to pay the 2% cc fee on the remaining balance? having booked the holiday before 13/1/18.

There's no way of knowing. The government often makes U turns but if the policy goes through then you could be right.

My understanding though is that if you've paid any part of a package holiday on a credit card then you have that extra bit of insurance. You could save up between now and January and pay the balance with a debit card and still be covered. Hopefully you've also got travel insurance as a lot can happen before your holiday.

if the fees are scrapped then they will not be in force when you make the next payment so you cannot be charged

The travel industry is waiting for advice from the Treasury, supposedly due by the end of this month but the current understanding is that no fees can be charged for any payments after 13th January, even for bookings made before then. In theory it seems like a great idea, but the banks are still charging fees to the travel industry so to compensate prices will rise to cover the cost and everyone will end up paying more.
