What time of year are deer most active?

I've had some success in recalling my dog over the past six months, albeit mostly from other dogs rather than wild animals. However, over the past three days it's all gone to pot due to a sudden preponderance of roe deer in the region. So he's 100% back on the lead again. He tends to disappear for about half an hour, but I suspect he doesn't go far. I've always eventually found him near to where he bolted, or dashing about frantically in the long grass or marsh within where he is mostly hidden from view.
I'm wondering why the sudden problem? I tend to go out about 7.30am for a hour. I understand roe deer are active after dawn and before dusk, so perhaps it's the nights closing in. What time of year would the male juveniles leave the herd and start wandering? I understand roe deer have a 90% fatality during the first year, so soon after birth in the early summer there must be a population explosion.
I was thinking of moving from the South to the Flintshire region, but they seem to be all over the country!

As th weather gets colder and the vegetation growth slows down the deer will move to where there is food available.
The ones beside us generally live on the hilltops and high forests but are now coming down to the lower ground moorland and fields.0
