Yeah a 600kg winch should pull a car onto a trailer.
You might need to fabricate something to hold a bike wheels but no resoan why not.0 -
Have you looked at PPG? A mate of mine has had two of theirs (first one was stolen..), hydraulic tilting flat bed so no ramps required, winch, he uses it for basic recovery and collection of cars for his workshop business, I'm sure he said it was quite a bit less than the prices you're talking about, though it was a few years ago now.0

I think it is PRG trailer which I called but their price is more than BJ so can't really see why i would use them
BJ and ifor William will have a strong resell value due to their name else I could buy a cheap unknown brand
found one now and going to see and pick it up.
It is 2013-14 model . CT136HD. what kind of things do i need to look for when buying one?
I guess check the rust overall and ensure there is no major damage ?0 -

Wheel bearings, brakes, emergency breakaway cable, lights, tow hitch, tyres, jockey wheel. Look for uneven wear on the tyres. It may indicate a bent axle.
If it hasn't got a spare wheel, you'll need one. Sod's law.
My wife killed my last car trailer by catching a wheel on a gate post and bending the axle. She demolished the heavy steel farm gate while she was at it too.0 -
Check the brakes on all 4 wheels work, and that the autoreverse disengages, handbrake holds it, that the tyres are fairly even, the lights all work (it'll be 14 pin so you may need an adapter) and that everything seems to be in good condition.
If you can, see if it pulls ok in a straight line forwards/back.
A 2014 IW will be registered with IW and The Equipment Register, so there should be some paperwork and a form to submit to update the keeper address. Check if they have that and it matches the info on the trailer.0 -
Most trailer manufacturers use a lot of common parts.
For instance, we use Maypole trailer lightboards, Knott sprung axle assemblies and StarCo wheels as well as as Alko brakes.
The main problem is that most people associate certain manufacturers with certain trailer types. For instance, Iffor Williams for horse boxes and builders trailers, Brian James for car transporter trailers and Mersea Trailers for boat trailers.
In reality, they will all have a range of trailers. Indespension are known for general purpose trailers, but also produce boat trailers. Mersea Trailers mainstay may be boat trailers, but they produce platform trailers similar to IW ones up to 20 feet in length with fully removable sides. They also make car transporter trailers to order.
The basic chassis used for underpinning a car transporter is no different to that of a box or platform trailer, regardless of manufacturer.Never Knowingly Understood.

Thanks
How would i check and ensure a trailer is not stolen
I called iforwilliam and gave the chassis number and they confirmed it is not stolen
They said ter does also record all stolen trailers but they charge £10 .
Anywhere else i could check with?0 -

That should be sufficient. You can try TER for the extra piece of mind but I'd expect it to be recorded in with both. The seller having the paperwork and being at the registered address would also confirm it.0 -
Did that and paid £12 and he pulled out
What a joke
Decided to bite the bullet and buy a new one at 2.6k0 -
Many thanks for the detailed explanation
I however want to stick with smallest i can get away with as my width in garage is limited
The guys with second hand ifor pulled out and i was annoyed and straight away said i don't have time for barganing
Went ahead and bought a c136hd with center decking, toolbox and winch mount for 2.6k and brought it home today
Now that i am an owner of one i have the following questions and appreciate if youbcan answer any of them, there are few:)
What is the best security solution for this whilst parked on drive , i was thinking 2 x stoplock wheel lock at £40 each
http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7406164?store=130&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59156|cid:596310901|agid:28593974845|tid:aud-144400486596:pla-182972713045|crid:95879993965|nw:g|rnd:9348574072737409548|dvc:m|adp:1o4&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt7Xjw7i01gIV6rXtCh2JFAwhEAQYBCABEgI65fD_BwE
Plus one tow hitch lock, but which one?
I have one but it is cheap so need something strong
Second question is around wheel strap, what do you guys use? I did buy some hd straps from screwfix and have lasted me so far but they don't go over the wheel .
They are rated at 0.5 ton each and I have 4 of them
3. Would you load the car with prop stands down and not hitched to a car?
4. Is there any reason why i should get servicing done at dealer?
I have rebuilt my own e36 from scratch up ao can't think few brake drums or tightening of bolt be that difficult
5. What hitch should i buy? Any ebay ones will do?
I am tempted by electric ones which are £40 compared to £180 dealer wanted for 1ton manual winch
6. When you lower jocky wheel , you don't need to lock it, do you?
Many thanks0
