British Gas Refusing Gas Transfer

Options
Signed up for the 2 year deal with OVO transferring from MSE collective. Have received an email from OVO saying -

"We are currently in the process of switching over your energy supply to Ovo Energy.
Unfortunately, an objection to the gas transfer has been raised by your current supplier."

Spoke on live chat to British Gas who said they couldn't see any reason not to allow the transfer as both gas and electric accounts are in credit. Said they would investigate further and reply by email. Got 2 emails from them, first one says "sorry you're transferring your electric" and second one says "thanks for your enquiry about gas and your new direct debit will start in October."

What do I do next? Is there an escalation process? Shouldn't the energy club be handling this?

  • Have you checked with Ovo that they have requested the right MPRN?

To answer your last point, MSE CEC does not action or monitor switches. It is nothing more than an energy supplier comparison site. When you apply via a comparison site, it passes your details on to the gaining supplier who then takes matters forward with you as a future customer. For its part, MSE CEC collects a referral fee. It then sits back and waits for the supplier to pay it the money which it shares with you.

Do a physical check that the meter that Ovo is trying to takeover is your meter. If the address and meter number match, then raise a formal written complaint against British Gas.
