Is there a basic Bank Account with a card that doesn't have a salary requirement

Options
Does anyone know of a basic bank account with a debit card that doesn't have a requirement to pay x amount in a month. Also do the the ones that do actually check this or can you just put it on the form and hope they don't notice?

    James,

Depends on your credit rating and income.

Banks are a bit more fussy about opening full bank accounts with debit cards with no regular payments going through it.

If you do want a 'basic' bank account, most of these don't have debit cards or cheque books, because they don't come with overdrafts.

You can get visa electron or Solo cards though - but these will only work in chip and pin terminals and certain online retailers.

Worth having a look at Yorkshire bank, Co-op and Nationwide Cash Card account.

    Good luck

Hi I'm not sure if this one has a card with it, it just says no OD or cheque book
    Basic Cash Account
Does say you need to ask in branch for more details so no good if you don't have a branch near by.

The Natwest Step Account comes with a Solo card Step Account

    Try;

    Clydesdale/Yorkshire Readycash- Maestro

    Co-operative Cashminder - Electron

    Halifax Easycash - Electron

    Natwest Step - Solo

Also, Lloyds TSB's Cash Account now comes with a 2-in-1 Visa debit card, only down side is it can only be used to withdraw money from Lloyds TSB cash machines.

My OH has a basic Nationwide Cashcard account (Flex, as previously posted) from when he was on benefits. He cannot pay for anything in shops, just use it at cashpoints. He also was able to use Internet Banking with the basic account. No complaints about it.

A+L just has a requirement to pay in £500 a month (not your salary) which may be an option. There is nothing to stop you paying in £500 then taking it out, then paying it back in next month.. and so on.
