HDMI Wall Plates - Have I got this right?

We are trying to build a chimney breast mounted TV setup in the house which looks neat and tidy.

The plan is to cut some holes into the chimney breast and feed wires through them. The wires would then come out in the side of the chimney breast at floor level and plug into the various boxes we will have there (Sky/PS4 etc).

The issue is we regularly need to plug in extra things to the TV for short periods of time; be that borrowed games console, laptop for display purposes etc.

Am I right in thinking I can do the following:
  • Cut a hole into the side of the chimney breast and attach a HDMI faceplace
  • Wire a HDMI cable from the back of this faceplate through the chimney breast into a HDMI port on the TV
  • Simply plug any new devices into the faceplate using another HDMI cable and have that signal appear on the selected HDMI channel on the TV?

I am thinking about something like this:

Thanks!
