HDMI Wall Plates - Have I got this right?

We are trying to build a chimney breast mounted TV setup in the house which looks neat and tidy.
The plan is to cut some holes into the chimney breast and feed wires through them. The wires would then come out in the side of the chimney breast at floor level and plug into the various boxes we will have there (Sky/PS4 etc).
The issue is we regularly need to plug in extra things to the TV for short periods of time; be that borrowed games console, laptop for display purposes etc.
Am I right in thinking I can do the following:
I am thinking about something like this:

Am I right in thinking I can do the following:
- Cut a hole into the side of the chimney breast and attach a HDMI faceplace
- Wire a HDMI cable from the back of this faceplate through the chimney breast into a HDMI port on the TV
- Simply plug any new devices into the faceplate using another HDMI cable and have that signal appear on the selected HDMI channel on the TV?
I am thinking about something like this:

The above facts belong to everybody; the opinions belong to me; the distinction is yours to draw...

Yes, you can do that.
Buy a double HDMI face plate instead, you are bound to want more than one (assuming your TV has more than one HDMI input).
You don't 'wire' HDMI cables, all HDMI faceplates will come with an HDMI connector on the other side, so you use a long HDMI cable and connect the plug to the other side of the faceplate.
If your holes are going to be small use a Micro HDMI cable and thread the small end through the hole, then use a Micro HDMI adapter on the end to connect to the faceplate.
I've found there are lots of different faceplates and they often have different position connections on the back. Some have a short HDMI lead and socket, this can be quick hard to fit into a small pattress box. Some have an HDMI socket directly on the back, this also would be hard to fit in a pattress box.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Those look like a plug through type like no 3
Following are just examples of the different types
1.Pre-wired AV plates (most expensive)

Modular pre-wired

2. Add the wires/cables/plugs etc yourself ( hardest ) some screwed , solder joints modules etc

Singular modules

4. Cables just through /face plate (Cheapest )

If fitting in existing back boxes that are to shallow add either Spacers or break out rear of normal pattress
Spacers
