my van is a SWB MK7 transit from 2006. Basically the garage couldn't find out exactly what the fault was. They thought it was the smoke from the exhaust. I took it to another garage and they told me to carry driving for another 500 miles then come back to see it. It seems they both couldn't detect the problem. Now the engine is ruined. Should I put the blame on them?

Transits and ROT are back in a big way, 10 years and they are turning in to bags of crisps, as said above get it checked and learn the difference between rust and ROT.
They are very different and Transits Rot like no tomorrow.

Generally rust refers to corrosion of ferrous metals eg. steel whereas rot refers to deterioration of organic materials such as timber.

So you noticed a problem, and took the van to one garage. They couldn't diagnose it.
You took it to a different garage, who (presumably) did something, then suggested you return in 500 miles.

And you think that one or both of these garages caused the problem? No, it's almost certainly simply wear and perhaps poor prior maintenance. But based on "engine oil leaked into the engine" (well, where else should it be?), all bets are off as to remote diagnosis...

It's an 11yo van. Why on earth would you insist on a main dealer fitting a brand new engine? Bear in mind 2006 was a change-over model year - and part of the changes included different engines. It will also have a different engine if it's a 260 FWD or RWD - so simply saying "2006 T260" could be any of four different engines.

My ford transit T260 engine died after engine oil leaked into the engine and now its burnt. The garage told me its better to buy a new van because all second hand engines are bit of gamble.

I assume that you are trying to tell us that your van was burning engine oil?

In which case, you should have checked your oil more often. I believe the Highway code recommends a minimum of once per week.
