  • Did you vote Conservative in the General election? If so you voted for this system. If you voted Labour then you are correct and it is a disgrace.
If you voted anything else, it's irrelevant.

So, if they were mortgage free I assume that you would want to live there rent free.

You might expect a favourable rent. Landlords who can often lower the rent to get long term tenants IME.
  • You should tell your friend that you will not be able to afford the rental price in the long term and that you are seeking another place to live. Check local market for rent prices and compare. Make a decision.

  • Although many people are replying to this, I think it's clear that MSE Sarah has gone away. Why don't we let this thread die a peaceful death.

You do realise that this was never a real question, just a Money Moral Dilemma?

It's one of the hypotheticals that MSE staff post now and again.

Well no because in this case there is no moral dilemma.
    It's nothing , not nothink.
  • I used to rent out two rooms in my house - one for £250 a month and one for £300 a month, bills included. I had no mortgage at all.

Should my lodgers have lived rent-free?

It was still miles cheaper than renting a house and then paying bills!!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

This thread should be interesting after rent controls are introduced?
