My android mobile switches off wi-fi

My Android mobile switches off wi-fi automatically. Our other Android mobiles stay connected.
I would rather know about new messages such as via WhatsApp immediately rather than when I remember to check the connection. Any ideas on how to keep connected?
Thanks.

Do you mean the connection drops ? Or the actual Wifi turns off on the phone
(Icon goes "off") on its own0 -
It goes off on its own.0

One of these suggestions should fix it

It's supposed to turn off around 15mins after the screen turns off.
Use mobile data if you want a constant connection.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Not sure what to do next. Presumably, unless I use mobile data on this phone, I won't get WhatsApp calls when out and about.0 -
Makes/models of phones?
Versions of Android being used?
Is WiFi+ enabled?0 -
Sorry - WiFi+ may be a Huawei thing. (I thought it was part of Android). It allows the phone to turn on and off WiFi depending on availability of known WiFi networks.0

Update from OP: wifi connection is now sticking.
What happened? I downloaded BT Virus Protect from mcafee (included with our broadband package). I was getting spam messages telling me I had 'won' an iPhone 6, 7 or X. Since then, no spam and wifi stays switched on.
