My android mobile switches off wi-fi

My Android mobile switches off wi-fi automatically. Our other Android mobiles stay connected.

I would rather know about new messages such as via WhatsApp immediately rather than when I remember to check the connection. Any ideas on how to keep connected?

Thanks.

It's supposed to turn off around 15mins after the screen turns off.

Use mobile data if you want a constant connection.

Same here. Acttual wifi turns off; turning it back on doesn't work (goes straight off); a phone restart fixes it.

Thanks. However, our other Android phones stay switched on for some reason.

Yes, I had this until I had a message that I had used £5+ for data in next to no time. (3-2-1 customer, phone not roaming in recent weeks)
Not sure what to do next. Presumably, unless I use mobile data on this phone, I won't get WhatsApp calls when out and about.

    Sorry!

    Moto E 2nd gen
    Moto G
    Umi Diamond

    Versions of Android being used?
    6.0
    5.1
    6.0

    Is WiFi+ enabled?
    Yes
    Yes
    Yes

ETA: not sure. Just noticed the '+' in WiFi+. Is that different from WiFi?

It's the Umi that drops the connection.

Sorry - WiFi+ may be a Huawei thing. (I thought it was part of Android). It allows the phone to turn on and off WiFi depending on availability of known WiFi networks.

Update from OP: wifi connection is now sticking. :)

What happened? I downloaded BT Virus Protect from mcafee (included with our broadband package). I was getting spam messages telling me I had 'won' an iPhone 6, 7 or X. Since then, no spam and wifi stays switched on.

Thanks to all who commented above.
