Spending less. My realization of brand name vs shops' own value brand

The only area I don't personally rate in Lidls is fruit, but their veg is usually great and they often have half price days on fruit and veg. Even their 9 pack tiolet rolls are great with less fluff than the cute puppy brand...
I also like the fact that you have to bring your own bags. There seems to be a lot of snobbery related to these European stores but I would rather be a rich pleb than a poor snob....
I do appreciate that not everyone lives near to an alternative to Tesco's but give it a try as you have nothing to lose...
Ps I have no connections to Lidls other than being a customer...:j

I have to disagree with people moaning about not having bubble bath in a bath. Even when I used expensive body shop produce I used to often have baths without bubbles as I dont like always having chemicals on my skin, sometimes it is sheer bliss just lying in warm-hot water and relaxing.
I like smart price museli (58p) although OH isnt so keen, but I dont like bits of coconut or banana in it and he does.
Ribena is something I cant compromise on although I drink Asda diet coke 6 litres for 1 pound!! Bargain!Debt Free - done
Mortgage Free - done

I do think its hit and miss though.
Some things you really can't tell the difference but with others Id rather carry on buying the brand name.
First couple of things Ive changed is:
Moved from Andrex to Tesco own brand toilet roll. (Get more for your money)
Changed from Nescafe to Tesco own brand coffee ( OH couldn't tell the difference)
Changed from Cif to Tesco cream cleaner......does the same job at half the price.
Changed from Domestos to Tesco own brand bleach.
Things I won't compromise on are cereals and heinz tomato sauce
I would like to find a cheaper option to radox bubble bath as we get through a ton of the stuff and it aint cheap. Tried the tesco stuff but it makes me itch.
Poundland is your new friend
The poundland near me always has loads of radox in

It can make a difference. My DS1 is allergic to milk. The bright side to this is that value stuff doesn't have it in (eg biscuits), so he gets something he likes/can eat, and I save money:D . I too won't compromise on meat. In fact I don't buy it in a superstore anymore, it all just tastes of nothing. I go to my local butcher, who has his own herd of cows, so I know where it has come from!
As to the rest chopped toms in spag bol value or premium brand doesn't make any difference to the taste. But value beans:eek: eeww. Has to be Heinz (most other brands have milk proteins in WHY?). I too have ribena mainly because other brands have sorbital in which makes me itch! But will try most value things once.
One thing that has really gone up in quality since I was a child is own brand cereals. We get own brand cornflakes, rice crispies and shreddies and we can't tell the difference to the branded ones.
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

I dont think there is many benfits to being a brand snob.
I usually get all my tinned veg from the value stuff, you cant tell the difference.
I wont buy cheap meat though, Cheap mince is a big no, no. My chilli is really chewy and fatty with the cheap stuff. I buy the low fat stuff for about £2 and its much better.
Loo roll. I buy sainsburys mid-range brand. Thats fine. I will also look out for bargains and offers and will stock up if the deals are good. Cook in sauces etc.
I buy own brand pasta and rice - you cant tell the difference
Own brand (pure) orange juice.
I think its just trail and error, there are some things I wont buy own brand, but its worth finding out how good you think they are and it could save you loads.

Superdrug near me had Radox on BOGOF on Sunday, hopefully the offer is still on. Think it was 2 for £1.39.I agree about Aldi and Lidl. We have shopped there for the past year or so and although it took a bit of getting used to we now love it! Gives us that holiday feeling with the products with foreign wrting on, and as the shops are far smaller there is way less temptation to blow the budget. We never spend more than £20 a week for the 2 of us. But the best bit is that we have got it to a fine art so are in and out of there in 15 mins flat, so less of our time spent food shopping!Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams
